Deep Tissue Massage
About This Treatment
Deep Tissue Massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage but with more intense pressures to target the deeper layers of muscle tissue.
The technique can be both posturally corrective and physically therapeutic and can be used to treat a range of disorders including sports injuries and chronic pain.
Is this massage right for me?
Deep tissue is a firm massage using more intense pressures and strokes than Swedish. Great for targeting deep aches and chronic muscle pain.
Before your treatment
If it is your first visit please arrive a few minutes early as you will be required to fill out a short consultation form. This will consist of questions about your health and lifestyle and is nothing to worry about but is required before any treatment can commence. Any information provided will always be strictly confidential.
If this is not your first visit please arrive on time. Please do not arrive too early as we may be busy with the previous client. Remember to alert us if anything has changed health wise which may affect your treatment.
During your treatment
You do not need to do anything except relax and enjoy your session! If however you would like anything changed or you experience any discomfort please don’t be afraid to mention it, no offence will be taken as we want you to enjoy the session as much as possible.
After your treatment
After your treatment you should feel relaxed. Some people may experience what is known as a ‘healing crisis’
“A healing crisis, or healing reaction, is a temporary worsening of symptoms that occurs when the body is going through the process of healing itself through the elimination of toxins.”
It is important to remember that symptoms, if experienced, are only temporary and will only last up to a couple of days while the body re-balances. You may notice positive effects afterwards such as increased energy, decreased anxiety, a clearer mind and an improved sense of well-being.
Also, after your session your body temperature may have lowered so remember to bring extra clothing with you if you tend to feel the cold. As the body detoxifies during and after a session you may feel thirsty or find that you need to use the toilet more than usual. This is normal. Please remember to keep your body hydrated in the days after the treatment and try to lower your intake of caffeine and alcohol if possible. Most importantly of all, allow your body time to rest and relax!
Please do not book a massage if you have any of the following conditions for obvious health reasons
- Contagious Diseases (Including any cold or flu)
- Currently taking any prescription pain medication
- Recent operation or acute injuries
- Skin Diseases
