Fire Cupping Therapy

About This Treatment

Glass cups of various sizes are held over an open flame to decrease oxygen and create a vacuum that can penetrate up to 4 inches deep (this is essentially the inverse of compression used in massage). Pressure can vary from light to deep.

Cups may be placed on specific locations or may be moved across the back in a gliding motion. The suction draws up stagnant fluids from the body, releases toxins and long held adhesion’s in soft and scar tissue, encourages blood and lymph circulation and promotes well being.

Is this massage right for me?

Fire cupping is a great addition to end any massage (although not recommended if your goal is for pure relaxation only). You may feel a pinching sensation as the cups are placed but this will decrease over the next minute or so. Fire cupping is great for anyone wanting that extra boost with removing toxins from the skin and recommended for those who are experiencing trouble with sleep.

Before your treatment

If it is your first visit please arrive a few minutes early as you will be required to fill out a short consultation form. This will consist of questions about your health and lifestyle and is nothing to worry about but is required before any treatment can commence. Any information provided will always be strictly confidential.

If this is not your first visit please arrive on time. Please do not arrive too early as we may be busy with the previous client. Remember to alert us if anything has changed health wise which may affect your treatment.

During your treatment

You do not need to do anything except relax and enjoy your session! If however you would like anything changed or you experience any discomfort please don’t be afraid to mention it, no offence will be taken as we want you to enjoy the session as much as possible.

After your treatment

After your treatment you should feel relaxed. Some people may experience what is known as a ‘healing crisis’

A healing crisis, or healing reaction, is a temporary worsening of symptoms that occurs when the body is going through the process of healing itself through the elimination of toxins.”

It is important to remember that symptoms, if experienced, are only temporary and will only last up to a couple of days while the body re-balances. You may notice positive effects afterwards such as increased energy, decreased anxiety, a clearer mind and an improved sense of well-being.

Also, after your session your body temperature may have lowered so remember to bring extra clothing with you if you tend to feel the cold. As the body detoxifies during and after a session you may feel thirsty or find that you need to use the toilet more than usual. This is normal. Please remember to keep your body hydrated in the days after the treatment and try to lower your intake of caffeine and alcohol if possible. Most importantly of all, allow your body time to rest and relax!

Please also be aware that Fire Cupping therapy may leave temporary bruise marks that can last up to a week which is perfectly normal.
